This tutorial will help you create a Web 2.0 style logo, I personally think Fireworks is the best solution for these type of fast rapid logo creation.

This is what you’ll get at the end of the this tutorial.

Begin with the desired text, bold text comes out better becuase the effect is more visible.

Add a linear gradient to the text, make sure the dark side of the linear colouring is at the top.

Add a border to the text, make the border red.

The next step is to drop a shadow, to the text. This is under the Shadow and Glow menu of the effects categories.

The next step is to add a glow, which is also under the Shadow and Glow menu. Make the glow.

It’ll look like this: -

The next step is too glossify it, I do that just by overlapping a white 35% transparent rectangle, half way over the text. It’ll look like this:-
