  • Advanced Holiday card presentation with shine effect

    Holidays are here and I have decided to show you how to make very modern Holiday card presentation using a Xmas balls and text effects. You can use this Christmas card for any Christmas banner, presentation, animation, for Holiday header... You do not need to use the action script code to make this lesson! Using this lesson, you will also learn:

    1. How to import any picture into a flash stage,
    2. How to convert it into a Movie Clip Symbol,
    3. How to animate it using flash 8 filters and some special flash tips and tricks,
    4. How to create simple text animation,
    5. How to design shine effect and animate it and much, much more!

    Example:

    Step 1

    First, sava a picture of Xmas balls below!



    Step 2

    Open a new flash document. Choose Modify > Document (Ctrl+J). Set the movie's width to 400 and movie's height to 300. Set your Flash movie's frame rate to 30. Select white color as background color and click ok.



    Step 3

    Choose now, file > Import > Import to stage (Shortcut key: Ctrl+R) and import a picture of Xmas balls into a flash stage.

    Step 4

    While the picture is still selected, press F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this picture into a Movie Clip Symbol.



    Step 5

    While the new made Movie Clip (picture) is still selected, go to the Align Panel (Ctrl+K) and do the following:

    1. Make sure that the Align/Distribute to Stage button is turned on,
    2. Click on the Align horizontal center button and
    3. Click the Align vertical center button.



    Step 6

    Call the current layer Xmas Balls. Double-click on its default name (Layer 1) to change it. Press Enter once you have typed in the new name!

    Step 7

    Click now on frame 15, 150 and 165 and press F6 key.

    Step 8

    Go back now on the first frame, Select the Selection Tool (V) and click once on the picture (Movie Clip) to select it. Then, go to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3). Then, select Filters tab from the left side. Click after that on the plus icon and select the Blur filter. Make the adjustments as follows:



    Step 9

    Take now the Free Transform Tool (Q), select the picture, press and hold down Shift key and start dragging your mouse upwards.



    Now, we increase the image a little.



    Step 10

    Select again the Selection Tool (V) and click once on the picture (Movie Clip) to select it. After that, go to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Advanced on it, click on Settings button, set the following options and click ok.



    Repeat this process also for frame 165!

    Step 11

    Right-click anywhere on the gray area between frame 1 and 15 and frame 150 and 165 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears. See the picture below.



    Step 12

    It's time for shine effect, so create a new layer above the layer Xmas balls and name it shine effect. See the picture below!



    Step 13

    Select now the shine effect layer, click on frame 15, press F6 key and take the Oval Tool (O). Then, draw a circle about 75x75px. While the circle is still selected, open the Color Mixer Panel (Window > Color Mixer) and choose the following options:

    1. Click on the paint bucket icon to select the Fill color.
    2. Choose Radial as Type.
    3. Click on the small color rectangle that is on the left side, move it using the Selection Tool a little right and set its color to #FFFFFF. Alpha property set to 100 %
    4. Click on the second rectangle from the right side, move it a little left and set its color to #FECE41, but change its alpha property to 0% (completely transparent).



    Step 14

    Take now the Line Tool (N) and draw a shape like it is shown on the picture below.



    Step 15

    Select now that shape and go again to the Color Mixer Panel (Shift+F9). Then, choose the following options:

    1. Click on the paint bucket icon to select the Fill color.
    2. Choose Radial as Type.
    3. Click on the small color rectangle that is on the left side, move it using the Selection Tool a little right and set its color to #FECE41. Alpha property set to 100 %
    4. Click on the second rectangle from the right side, move it a little left and set its color to #FFFFFF , but change its alpha property to 50%.



    Now, you get this:



    Step 16

    Place that shape now on the center of circle.

    Step 17

    Take the Selection Tool (V) and select the shine layer. After that, press F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this shine shape into a Movie Clip symbol.



    Step 18

    Double-click on the movie clip on stage with the Selection tool(V).You should now be inside the Movie Clip.



    Step 19

    While the shine shape is still selected, press again F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this shine shape again into a Movie Clip Symbol.



    Step 20

    Click now on frame 5 and 20 and press F6 key. While you're still on frame 20, take the Selection Tool (V) and click once on the Movie clip to select it. After that, go to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Alpha in it and put it down to 0%.



    Step 21

    Go back now on frame 5, click again once on the Movie Clip (shine shape) with the Selection Tool (V) and go again to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Tint on it and choose the following options:



    Step 22

    Take again the Selection Tool (V) and click once on frame 5. Then, go again to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. After that, for Tween choose Motion and for Rotate choose CW. See the picture below.



    Step 23

    Go back now on the first frame, take the Free Transform Tool (Q), select the image, press and hold down Shift key and start dragging your mouse downwards (to decrease shine shape a lot). See the picture below!





    Step 24

    Right-click anywhere on the gray area between frame 1 and 5 and frame 5 and 20 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears. See the picture below.



    Step 25

    It's time for text effect, so create a new layer above the layer shine effect and name it text.

    Step 26

    Click now on frame 15 and press F6 key. After that, Select the Text Tool (A) and go to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. Then, choose the following options:

    1. Select a Static Text field,
    2. Select Monotype Corsiva as font.
    3. Choose 22 as font size and bold it,
    4. Select #990000 as color,
    5. As the rendering option, select Use Anti-alias for readability.



    Step 27

    Type after that, above the Xmas balls "Merry Christmas and a happy New Year". See the picture below!



    Step 28

    While the text is still selected, press F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this text into a Movie Clip Symbol.



    Step 29

    Click now on frame 25, 140 and 150 and press F6 key.

    Step 30

    Go back on frame 15, Select the Selection Tool (V) and click once on the picture to select it. After that, go again to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Alpha in it and put it down to 0%.



    Repeat this process also for frame 150.

    Step 31

    Right-click anywhere on the gray area between frame 15 and 25 and frame 140 and 150 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears. See the picture below.



    We're done!
