Someone has requested this tutorial, so I thought I will do it. It will teach you how to make a simple but cool glow effect like the one below. I am using flash 8, which you will need since this tutorial requires filters.

First of all, make some text or something. As you can see above I made some text that reads ¡®GLOW¡¯. Once you have done that, make it a MC (MovieClip), not a graphic since you cant apply filters to graphics, and call it whatever you want.

Now, in the filters panel (Windows>Properties>Filters) click on the little plus sign and choose the ¡®Glow¡¯ filter.

Now mess around with the settings until you get something you like. Here is what I used for the text.

Now to get the effect we are looking for, look over to the right of the filters panel. You should see two check boxes. Make sure the one labeled ¡®Knockout¡¯ is checked. Now your text should look something like mine. For the red lines in the background, I got the paint brush and scribbled on it. Then followed the same steps as above but with different settings. It actually has two different glow filters applied to it so the middle of the line isn¡¯t completely white.

Short, I know. But this effect can work well when used right.
