    Draw a head in Flash

    Author: 2008-10-09 10:45:19 From:

When you’re drawing try to avoid lines. It looks nicer that way. This is tutorial about how to draw simple head using few layers and nothing but fills (oval and rectangle tools without lines). Just follow these steps:

Create new flash file, set size to 300x300 (in pixels) and set title as Draw_tut and then draw big red circle (hold down SHIFT while drawing to draw perfect circle). This will be head.

Note: To disable lines around circle set stroke color as crossed rectangle.

    dd

Draw black circle in place where should be left (your left) eye. That’s outline for your eye. Draw another circle but smaller and white and finally one tiny black circle

Note: If you hold ALT while drawing you will draw circle from middle. It is more natural look if you move a little bit center of white circle (so it don’t have same center as black one).

Repeat step 2. for other eye but draw it a little bit smaler

    d

Note: You can copy first eye and scale it down. I found that if you copy it isn’t natural.

Hmm, now mouth. Draw black rectangle and use selection tool to deform it. It will be outline for the mouth.

    dfs

Select mouth, duplicate it (CTRL +D), change it’s color to white and scale it at 95% (press CTRL + ALT + S and set scale to 95%). Move it around to fit in mouth outline.

    vgbh

Draw black rectangle inside of mouth. This will be the gap between teeth. Use selection tool to adjust it’s shape

    ik

Insert layer and draw on it black circle that will act as outline for whole head.

    df

Use selection tool to select everything on a stage. Convert it to movie clip simbol (press F8) and name it head_mvclp.

    dfsda

Copy symbol and paste it on layer 2 (bottom one). From menu chose Modify>Transform>Flip Vertical.

Use free transform tool (shortcut: q) and stretch bottom head to be like shadow on flat.

Select “shadow” head and from properties bar for select alpha and set it at 15%. Now it looks like it’s standing on some kind of glass.

It will look better with darker background. So set background color as #666666 and that’s it.
