They offer many advantages over normal fonts - the main advantage being that they don't anti-aliase in Flash, meaning they remain crisp, clear and easy to read.
High quality pixel fonts are hard to get hold of, especially for free! Luckily, fontsforflash.com has a few free samples that can be downloaded. Once you've downloaded a font, copy it into your fonts folder, and then fire up Flash.
- Create a new document
- Click the text icon tool and type some text in the empty movie
- Select the text you've typed, and then choose your newly downloaded pixel font from the font selection box at the bottom of the screen.

- Pixel fonts only display correctly when their font size is a multiple of 8. So select either 8, 16, 24, 32 etc as your font size.
- Also, make sure that your text's X and Y coordinates are whole numbers, as this can affect the fonts display.
- Remember: If you're placing a pixel font inside a movie clip, the font can still look blurred even if it's X and Y coordinates are whole numbers. If this happens, ensure that the movie clip the font is contained in is also placed on a whole number. In general, avoid placing objects on decimal points as whole numbers are neater!
