2. Create a new layer. Name it "Life Saver".
3. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool. Create an oval selection for the life saver image.
4. Use the Paint Bucket tool and fill the selection with a darkish red color.
5. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool. Create a smaller oval selection in the center of the dark red circle.
6. Click the Delete key to remove the center portion of the life saver.
7. Select the Polygonal Lasso tool. Draw a selection like the one shown below.
(Note: You may need to goto Select > Modify > Smooth. Set smooth to 5 px. Do this to get a smooth selection over the rounded contour area of the selection.)
8. Use the Paint Bucket tool, choose white, then click on the red portion inside the selected area. It will turn white and disappear from view (blending with the white background).
9. Select the Polygonal Lasso tool. Draw a selection like the one shown below.
10. Use the Paint Bucket tool, choose white, then click on the red portion inside the selected area. It will turn white and disappear from view (blending with the white background).
11. Right click the "Life Saver" layer from the layers palette. Choose "Blending Options" from the pop-up list.
12. Set the properties for "Drop Shadow" to the following:
13. Set the properties for "Bevel and Emboss" to the following:
14. Click OK to accept changes to the Blending Options.
15. Click Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform mode. Use the shape handles to rotate the life saver so that it is at an angle.
16. When you are done rotating, you should have your life saver graphic.
