  • Embossing Photo Effect

    Author: 2008-06-23 10:18:38 From:

Sometimes just hunting around Photoshop and messing with a bunch of the different filters and settings can really help with learning the program. Here is a tutorial of one of those that I found this way.

We will learn how to use the Photoshop emboss filter to make a photo look like it is embossed on a piece of aluminum. Here is the picture I will begin with.

I have found that this filter for this particular application works best with a black and white photo, so we will need to desaturate it. From the menu bar select Image/Adjustments/Desaturate.

Again from the menu bar select Filter/Stylize/Emboss. I decided to post two pictures with different settings. For the picture on the left I used these settings: Angle(42), Height(2), Amount(50). For the one on the right I used these settings: Angle(-156), Height(2) , Amount(70). Play around with these settings a bit. Different pictures may require them to be tweeked a little to achieve the same results.
Here is what I came up with.
