This a quick and easy Photoshop tutorial on creating an aged sepia tone photo look using the gradient map adjustment layer.

- First open an image that you would like to use or download the image used in this tutorial below.

- First, make sure the layer palette is open in Photoshop and select the New Fill or Adjustment Layer icon in the bottom of the palette.

- Select the often over looked Gradient Map from the adjustments. There are many ways to add sepia toning but this method is extremely flexible and can easily be saved and reused.
- To adjust the gradient map double click on the gradient.

- Within the gradient map we will have three color points. To add a point click between the exsisting points and set the location to 50% like in the image below.

- To change the colors select a point then choose Color from the Stops menu.
- The far left point color should be set to around #411500.
- The middle point color should be set around #6c5e1b
- The far right point color should be set around #fdf3c6

Now that the adjustment layer is in place it is very easy to customize the look and tone of the picture to your needs. The Gradient map is very useful to do almost in kind of color adjustments, contrast work, and saturation effects that give the look of a particular photographic era and look from black and white to those 1960’s polaroid pictures.
