If you have a project you are working on that requires a fun type of text effect, then the cartoon overlapping text is a great effect to use. In this photoshop tutorial, we'll learn how to create a cartoon text where the letters overlap (and underlap) each other.

    1. Open up a new document in Photoshop and make sure the canvas is a size that is easy to type your text.
    2. Select the Type tool, choose a font, and type your first letter.

    3. Open the Layer Properties.
    4. Change the "Drop Shadow" properties to the following:

    5. Change the "Inner Shadow" properties to the following:

    4. Change the "Stroke" properties to the following:

    5. Click OK.
    6. Select the Move Tool.
    7. Hold down the CTRL key and drag a duplicate of the letter to the right.

    8. Select the Type tool and change the duplicate letter to whatever the next letter should be in the word you are making. In this case, I am writing the word Cartoon, so I will make an "a" for the next letter.

    9. Open the Layer Properties for the new letter.
    10. Change the "Cover Overlay" properties to the following:
(Color is optional, you can choose whichever color you want).

    11. Select the Move Tool and move the letter down to give it a bouncy look.
    12. Then move the layer for the new letter below the letter before it.

    13. Repeat Steps 6 thru 12 to create the next letter in the word, but this time move the layer above the letter before it.

    13. Continue to repeat this process from steps 6 thru 12. Alternating the letters above and below, depending on the letter before it.

    17. When you are done, you should have a Layers Palette that looks similar to the following:

    18. Congratulations! You have made your Cartoon Overlap text!
