  • Create A Powerful Solid Text Effect

Warning: This tutorial is for intermediate+, I will not explain everything in detail, eg: For making a selection of a layer I will not tell you how to select the layer, I will just say make a selection of the layer.

Here is the outcome that you will be creating:

    Step 1 – Background

Create a new document, I did mine 2000×1000 for high quality. Then grab the gradient tool and draw a radial background with similar colors to mine.

    Step1_background

    Step 2 – The Text

Select the type tool and enter whatever text you want to use, make the color a nice pink. Also make the text layer bold and the size around 250px.

    Step2_Text

The pattern used comes with photoshop, I think you just have to select the different patterns in the menus.

Currently, your document should look something like this:

    Step2_Current

    Step 3 – Reflection

We need to add a little reflection to the top of the text, use path tool to achieve this effect. Lower the opacity of the white layer to around 55%.

    Step3_Top-Reflection

We now are going to add a bottom reflection to the document. Duplicate the text & top reflection layers, make sure to rasterize the text layer. Then merge the two layers together and place the layer below the text layer.

    Step3_Layers

Using the transform tool vertically flip the layer and place it just underneath the text like so.

    Step3_Bottom-Reflection-1

Give the bottom reflection layer a layer mask. Using the brush tool with a hardness of 0% with a large radius paint in black on the bottom and top edges.

    Step3_Bottom-Reflection-2

Step 4 – Making It Floral

This step is mainly just you expiermenting with what works around the text. Create a new layer behind the original text layer (not reflection). Choose a nice pink color and start brushing, don’t forget to rotate, transform & skew the brushes to create new looking ones!

    Step4_Floral

    Step4_Floral

    Step 5 – Texturising

Drag the texture provided into the document, resize as you see fit. Make sure this layer is above all other layers, set the blending mode to color dodge. This may look bad at the moment but don’t worry. Make a selection of the text layer and delete it from the texture layer, do the same with the floral layer.

    Step5_Texture

Select the floral layer and gaussian blur it 250px.

    Step5_Blur

    Step 6 – Curves

Create a new curves adjustment layer above the texture layer and make it into a clipping mask. Change the curves to these screeshots:

    Step6_Curves

Now time for more floral, currently the layer mask on the curves layer is white, so its affecting the whole of the texture. We don’t want this, select the brush tool with the color black and put some flowers around the place.

    Step 7 – More Color

You must be getting sick of pink by now? Lets introduce some more color. I’m going to provide you with the sheet of color to use, or you can make your own. I just got some colors and then used a motion blur to sharpen them up.

Put the color sheet ontop of all your layers and set the blending mode to soft light.

    Finish
