Hello, this will be a very quick vray tutorial teaching you how to do a diamond or other precious stone material on vray, first, create some geospheres and render to see how they look:

Quite boring huh? don’t forget to UNCHECK smooth on them, otherwise they wont look like diamonds or precious stones
So, now we are going to create our diamond material, create a Vray material and put this parameters for Reflection:

Reflect full white and check the fresnel reflections.
Now for the Refraction, we are going to create a Fall Off map with the following parameters:

Great, now apply it to your scene and lets see how it turns out:

Cool! for this scene i turned on VRay caustics and i added a gradient black to environment, it helps for the reflections, i also used a Free Direct light pointing to the stones.
You can use this same material from creating any other kind of stone, all you have to do is to change the fall off colours for the refraction map, and you can create amethysts, topaz, sapphires, emeralds and so on.

The 3d jewelry marketing is making good money, so it’s something that can be tried if you are into this.
That’s it! Good Luck!
