- Download and Install Universal Extractor (free)
- Right-click the .docx document and select ‘Open With’ (if in Vista select “Choose Default Program…”)
- Vista: Uncheck the box at the bottom “Always use the selected program to open this kind of file“.
- If Universal Extractor does not appear in your list of choices, you may have to browse to it. It is located in C:\Program Files\Universal Extractor\ (64Bit users: replace Program Files with Program Files (x86) )
- Open the docx file with Universal Extractor. Optionally, after installing Universal Extractor you can open the file with WinRar.

- Extract to a preferred destination and then browse in the extraction folder to \word\media.
- In that folder you will see all the images and media incorporated in the word document (docx)
Method 2
You can just rename the .docx file to a .zip extension and treat that as a normal zip file. The default zip explorer built in windows should read it as a normal zip file and you can extract it as any other zip file.
Conclusion
A very simple and easy to use ‘hack’ to extract all the media from a .docx file without the need of copying and pasting. Hope it helps!
