| A data base is a data collection that belongs to the same context stored systematically for later use. In this sense, a library can be considered as a data base composed by books and indexed for its query. |
| Microsoft Access 2007 uses the relational model for the database management which is based on the logic of predicates where the data is represented by mathematical n-ary relations. Each relation is represented by the composition of fields stored in tables that represent these n-ary relations. |
| 1) Start Access from the Start menu or from a shortcut. |
| 2) The Getting Started screen will appear. |

| 3) Select the Blank Database Option and click on the icon. |

| Create a database from a template |
| Office Access 2007 includes a series of templates (more templates can be downloaded from Microsoft Office Online). What is a template? In Office Access 2007¡¯s context, is a data base pre designed with tables, forms and information with a professional design. The templates provide a great advantage at the time of creating a new data base. |
| 6) Start Access from the Start menu or from a shortcut. |
| 7) The Getting Started screen will appear. |
| 8) Select a template and press on their icon. |

| Create a database using a template from Office on Line |
| Additional Office Access 2007 templates can be downloaded from Microsoft Site. |

| 12) Select the Template option from the links below More on Office Online title. |

| Access will download the template automatically, create a new data base from that template, stores it in the document folder (for example, the folder my documents) and opens the data base. |
| Open a recently used database |
| When a data base is opened (or it is created and opened), Access adds the file name and the data base location to the more recently used documents. This list appears in the page Introduction to Microsoft Office Access, so the data bases can be opened easily. |
| 16) Start Access from the Start menu or from a shortcut. |
| 17) The Getting Started screen will appear. |
