Step 1. Install protocol:

Windows 2000: (win98 Or winXP)

Right click networking neighborhood on the desktop go to properties.

Select your network interface right click and go to properties
Click the install button, select protocol and then ADD

Select the protocol you want to use. (you will need the windows CD), if you selected netbeui skip this step.
If you selected TCP/IP you will need to decide if you want to assign IP addresses manually or dynamically.

if you decide to assign IP addresses with a DHCP server skip this step.

To assign the IP address manually:

Right click networking neighborhood on the desktop go to properties.
Select your network interface right click and go to properties.
Click TCP/IP from the list and click properties button.
Check the use following IP address
Enter a private IP address. (e.g. IP 192.168.2.* ---- subnet 255.255.255.0).
If u are connected to a router for internet access enter the IP of its local interface as the default gateway make sure that its in the same range. If you are not using a router leave this blank.
Enter 127.0.0.1 in primary DNS or enter routers IP address

Step 2. Install client services:

The services should already be installed, but if its not:
Right click networking neighborhood on the desktop go to properties
Select your network interface right click and go to properties.
Click the install button, select client and ADD. Then choose "Client for Microsoft".
Also make sure File and print sharing is checked.

Step 3. Test TCP\IP

Click START >> select RUN >> type in cmd.

At the dos prompt type ping 127.0.0.1. Your result should look like this:

If you don't see this screen then try the steps again. If it works then ping the IP you assigned (e.g. ping 192.168.2.2) if you get the same results then TCP/IP is setup correctly.
